Our system involves taking a photo of the patient’s teeth. Cheek retractors should be used in every photo. The key to accuracy is a photo taken with sharp focus, no shadows or glare, and no flash. Lighting must be full spectrum, with no spikes above 5000 to 5500 Kelvin, and 2200 to 2850 Lumens. The zone lighting system we offer resolves faulty color analysis due to older fluorescent lights that impact perception of color, overcast days, tinted windows, or the wall paint in designer colors that change the perception of color. An iPhone (without flash) and other advanced smart phones can produce a good photo for use with the Life Essence II system. They do a great job and are easy to use. They usually do not require auxiliary light volume to produce a good digital image for our shade communication analysis.
